Starting in 1997, Dr. K. Shaine Tyson (CEO of Rocky Mountain Biodiesel Consulting, LLC) and other key contributors worked together to create the vibrant biodiesel industry we have today. Dr. Tyson began with the U.S. Department of Energy’s Biodiesel Program in 1997 as the Alternative Diesel Fuel Project Manager with the National Renewable Energy Laboratory managing research and development and outreach programs that were integral to commercializing the biodiesel industry. The program she managed included research in renewable diesel fuels, green diesel, algae, pyrolysis oils, and Fischer-Tropsch fuels. The program was comprehensive and included the entire fuel pathway from feedstock production, intermediary fats and oil extraction, fuel conversion, and marketing and outreach, including life cycle analysis and long-term projections.

Since leaving the government in 2004, Dr. Tyson has worked with private and public clients. Her business background in energy and agricultural economics provides the ability to strategically position alternative diesel fuels in the energy and petroleum world. Dr. Tyson knows most of the key players in the various industries and government agencies. She is familiar with many of the existing commercial technologies and has worked with many of the emerging technology providers.
